Welcome to the Gothenburg Free Fencers Guild!
In our club we practice what is called Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA). Our focus is primarily on the time period of 14-1600s and we all practice with many different weapons. Our ambition is to run a club that is open to everyone, young and old, men and women. No matter who you are, we want to give you intensive training that is fun and interesting, that is both physically and mentally challenging, and which helps everyone to grow and evolve, no matter what level they are at.
The fencing can sometimes look violent and scary, but we are all concerned about each others’ safety and the injury frequency is very low. Lower than both football and hockey. For that reason, everyone can feel safe with us and everyone is more than welcome to come by and try HEMA out, even if they lack all earlier experience in training martial arts.
Our classes right now consists of a combined youth and adult group training centrally in the city, in the gym hall och the Schillerska Gymnasium. Training there takes place on Tuesdays between 7-8:30pm, and on Fridays 7-9pm (check the schedule below). Youths and children from the age of 12 and up are welcome to our training.
Tuesdays will be dedicated to Meyer, i.e. longsword, dusack, dagger, quarterstaff and halberd, but possibly also rappier and pike, eventually. Fridays will be dedicated to Montante and Jogo do Pau, but also some other fun things.
Younger children may also attend together with a parent, but then completely under the responsibility of the parent.
